Verbex 2.0 Is Here: Ask Your Past Experiments

Verbex 2.0 is out today on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. It is the biggest update since we started building Verbex: Record it. Trust it. Ask it.

Verbex has always been about one moment: you are gloved up at the bench, something happens, and you want it on the record without stopping. Version 2.0 keeps that promise and adds something new. Your finished experiments can now answer questions.

New: Ask your past experiments

Open Ask, choose the experiments you care about, and ask in plain English. For example, "What changed from the previous run?" Verbex answers in a few sentences, drawn only from your own notes, and shows the exact passages each part of the answer came from. Tap a source to read the full section.

Verbex Ask answering what changed between two HEK293T transfection runs, with numbered sources from the scientist's own notes
Ask compares two runs and cites the notes behind every statement.

Ask is generated entirely on your device by Apple Intelligence. Your experiments are never uploaded anywhere to produce an answer. Because every statement points to a source, you can check it in seconds instead of taking it on faith.

Choose your speech engine

Use Apple Speech, which is built in, or download a Whisper model for higher transcription accuracy. Both run on your device. You can switch any time in Settings.

Bring your earlier records with you

You can now import earlier Verbex Markdown exports, so Ask can use experiments you recorded before 2.0.

Everything you already rely on

  • Capture without stopping. Speak a note, type a quick update, start a timer or snap a photo. Every capture keeps its timestamp, so your record shows when things really happened, deviations and all.
  • A clean record, without rewriting at night. Verbex organizes your captures into Objective, Materials, Procedure, Observations and Conclusion. You review and edit the draft before completing it. It never invents data.
  • Snap the label, skip the typing. Photograph a reagent bottle and Verbex reads the catalog number, lot and expiry into your Materials, ready for your review.
  • A record you can trust. Completing an experiment seals it with its full history. Export to PDF, Word or Markdown for your ELN, your PI or your lab meeting.

Version 2.0 also brings clearer guidance while you capture, a refreshed look and many reliability improvements.

Still private by design

Transcription, label reading, drafting and Ask all run on your iPhone or iPad. There is no account, no cloud and no tracking. Your notes stay yours.

Your first 14 days are on us

Verbex is free to download. Everything is unlocked for 14 days from your first experiment, with no payment up front and no commitments. After that you can choose Weekly (US$2.99), Monthly (US$7.99) or Annual (US$49.99) access. Completed records stay yours to view and export, even if you stop subscribing.

Verbex requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. Ask requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence and is available in English. Verbex is a capture and documentation tool, not a replacement for your institution's official ELN.

Thank you

Verbex is made by a bench scientist for bench scientists, and many of the changes in 2.0 started as notes from people using it at the bench. If you have ideas, or something does not work the way you expect, write to us at support@verbalexperiment.com. We read every message.
